Strange Metals in One Spatial Dimension

چکیده
We consider 1 + 1 dimensional SU(N) gauge theory coupled to a multiplet of massive Dirac fermions transforming in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. The only global symmetry of this theory is a U(1) associated with the conserved Dirac fermion number, and we study the theory at variable, non-zero densities. The high density limit is characterized by a deconfined Fermi surface state with Fermi wavevector equal to that of free gauge-charged fermions. Its low energy fluctuations are described by a coset conformal field theory with central charge c = (N2 − 1)/3 and an emergent N = (2, 2) supersymmetry: the U(1) fermion number symmetry becomes an R-symmetry. We determine the exact scaling dimensions of the operators associated with Friedel oscillations and pairing correlations. For N > 2, we find that the symmetries allow relevant perturbations to this state. We discuss aspects of the N →∞ limit, and its possible dual description in AdS3 involving string theory or higher-spin gauge theory. We also discuss the low density limit of the theory by computing the low lying bound state spectrum of the large N gauge theory numerically at zero density, using discretized light cone quantization. ∗ On leave from Department of Physics and Center for Theoretical Science, Princeton University. 1 ar X iv :1 20 6. 47 19 v1 [ he pth ] 2 0 Ju n 20 12

Strange metals and the AdS/CFT correspondence
I begin with a review of quantum impurity models in condensed matter physics, in which a localized spin degree of freedom is coupled to an interacting conformal field theory in d = 2 spatial dimensions. Their properties are similar to those of supersymmetric generalizations which can be solved by the AdS/CFT correspondence; the low energy limit of the latter models is described by a AdS2 geomet...

Methods: We compared theconcentrations of aforementioned heavy metals in wells and springs inAndimeshk and Shush regions. The non-carcinogenic risk assessment of heavy metals ...
متن کاملAbsence of Disorder-Driven Metal-Insulator Transitions in Simple Holographic Models.
We study electrical transport in a strongly coupled strange metal in two spatial dimensions at finite temperature and charge density, holographically dual to the Einstein-Maxwell theory in an asymptotically four-dimensional anti-de Sitter space spacetime, with arbitrary spatial inhomogeneity, up to mild assumptions including emergent isotropy. In condensed matter, these are candidate models for...
متن کاملNonuniform scaling applied to surface energies of transition metals.
We construct a generalized gradient approximation of the exchange-correlation energy that satisfies the nonuniform scaling in one dimension and is accurate in the whole quasi-two-dimensional (Q2D) regime. Using spatial and energetic analyses of metal (111) surfaces, we show that the Q2D behavior is important at the surface of most transition metals, and that the here proposed Q2D-generalized gr...
متن کاملOn Strange Nonchaotic Attractors and their Dimensions
The work focuses attention on strange but nonchaotic behaviour of dynamic systems as a relatively new phenomenon distinct from the usual strange chaotic one. Several characterization techniques associated with Poincare sections, Lyapunov exponents, capacity and information dimensions are used. It is shown that based on a single time series it is virtually impossible to distinguish between stran...

The concentration of selected trace metals (Fe, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) in 30surface sediments were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer to investigatethe spatial and seasonal variations of trace metals along Kanyakumari coast, India. Toassess the environmental risk of trace metals, enrichment factor, geo-accumulation index, pollution load index, and ecological risk index have been calculat...
